Same-Day Crowns, Inlays, And Onlays

Restore Your Oral Health In Just One Visit

If you think that you might have a cavity or an infected tooth, Springs Village Dentistry is here to help you restore your smile with same-day crowns, inlays, and onlays. Thanks to our in-house CEREC dental lab, Dr. Benjamin Moore and Dr. Diana Molta can offer high-quality porcelain restorations in a single two-hour visit to our office in Holly Springs, NC.

Inlays & Onlays For Long-Lasting Tooth Restoration

Inlays and onlays are an alternative to dental fillings for tooth decay (cavities). They are also called “indirect” restorations. This is because, unlike composite fillings, inlays and onlays are not applied directly to your teeth.

Instead, Dr. Moore or Dr. Molta will prepare your tooth, remove decay, and scan it. Then, they will use this scan and CEREC in-office milling technology to create a porcelain restoration that fits perfectly into your tooth.

Compared to fillings, inlays and onlays are a better long-term option for restoring decayed teeth. They will not shrink, provide superior protection against future decay, and have a longer lifespan.

As for the name, the term “inlay” is used when decay is only “inside” your tooth and has not reached the cusps (edges). If the decay has reached the edges, the term “onlay” is used instead, since the restoration will also be partly “on top” of the tooth.

Dental Crowns For Unbeatable Protection

Dental crowns are similar to inlays and onlays. But instead of just restoring part of your tooth, a porcelain crown covers up the entire tooth all the way down to the gum line. Basically, it’s a hollow, false tooth that fits over your damaged tooth to protect it.

Crowns are usually recommended for very severe decay, to cover up teeth damaged by wear and tear or dental trauma, or to restore teeth after root canal therapy. In some cases, crowns may even be used exclusively for cosmetic purposes to enhance your smile.

Just like with our inlays and onlays, we use CEREC technology at our office to create dental crowns from a solid block of porcelain and restore your tooth in just one visit. This saves you time, gets you out of pain, and ensures that you can smile proudly right away.

The Benefits Of Same-Day Crowns, Inlays, And Onlays

No need for temporaries

With traditional crowns, inlays, and onlays, the restoration is fabricated by an outside dental lab. This means you must get a temporary filling (inlays and onlays) or a temporary crown until the permanent restoration is finished. With CEREC, there’s no need for any temporary restorations. You can walk out with a permanent inlay, onlay, or crown in one visit.

Avoid goopy impressions

Rather than traditional putty-based impressions, we use a touchless iTero scanner to take digital “impressions” of your teeth. This is a totally touch-free process, so you don’t have to worry about the discomfort caused by gag-inducing trays of dental putty!

Fit dental care into your schedule

With lab-made inlays, onlays, or crowns, you typically must visit the dentist at least twice over a 2-3 week period to get your new tooth. This can make it difficult to get the care you need, especially if you have a busy work or family schedule. Same-day treatment with CEREC makes it much easier to get the care you need for your tooth.

Long-lasting results

Inlays and onlays have a longer lifespan than fillings and are less likely to fail. With same-day CEREC technology at Springs Village Dentistry, you can get an inlay or an onlay in about the same amount of time it would take to place a traditional composite filling.

What To Expect From CEREC Same-Day Dentistry

So, how can Dr. Moore and Dr. Molta restore your tooth in just one day with CEREC? The process is pretty simple, and it will usually take just a single 1-2 hour visit at Springs Village Dentistry to restore your tooth. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Preparing your tooth – First, your dentist will clean and numb your mouth. We also offer sedation options at Springs Village Dentistry for your comfort. Then, your dentist will use a dental laser to remove any damaged or unhealthy tissue and reshape your tooth.

  • 3D scanning and restoration design – The next step is to use our iTero handheld 3D scanner to take a digital impression of your tooth. This only takes about 30 seconds. After your scan is complete, your dentist will use a software program to begin designing your inlay, onlay, or crown.
  • Milling your inlay, onlay, or crown – Once your design is finished, your dentist will load a block of tooth-colored porcelain into our CEREC milling machine. In just a few minutes, this machine will cut your inlay, onlay, or crown out of this solid block based on Dr. Moore or Dr. Molta’s design.
  • Final checks and restoration placement – When your restoration is finished, your dentist will remove it from the CEREC machine and bring it back to you. They will check the fit, make sure everything looks perfect, and make any last-minute adjustments if needed. Then, Dr. Moore or Dr. Molta will bond your inlay, onlay, or crown to your tooth permanently using dental cement. After one final polishing, you’ll be sent home with a healthy, beautiful, and natural-looking tooth.
